Hello, it would be nice to add in chess when you press letter s, playroom tells you which pieces does black have, and which pieces does white have. That would be useful when you join a game in progress.

Yes there should be a shortcut performing the function.
For example in winboard the shortcuts Alt + w and Alt + b do the job. Well there are many shortcuts which enrich the standard of accessibility.
