Golf is a game played with 3 to 6 players and with two standard 52 cards decks. It has nothing to do with the well known sport of the same name.
Its objective is to make as few points as possible by avoiding to accumulate cards of high value in one's own board.

Rules of the game

The board

Each player has his own card board in front of him, containing between 4 and 12 cards initially face down. These cards make his personal card board also called tableau. The objective is to turn up all cards of your board and to try to have as few points inside it, or to make an alignment of cards that count for 0 in that case.

Course of a turn

At your turn, you must:

  1. Draw a card, or take the card on top of the discard pile
  2. Replace an existing card of your tableau, face up or down, by the card just drawn or taken face up
  3. Discard the card that has just been removed from your tableau

You can discard the card you have just drawn if you aren't happy with it, if you didn't take it from the discard pile, but in that case, you must turn up a card of your tableau. Immediately discard the card just taken from the discard pile is forbidden, since it would basically mean a no-op or otherwise said, passing your turn.

You should avoid as most as possible to have high cards in your tableau, but if you manage to form a pair, three or four of a kind, horizontally, vertically or diagonally in a complete row or column, then these cards no longer count. Ideally, you should of course try to prevent other players from doing such alignments.

End of round

In order to finish the round, you must turn face up all the cards of your tableau. Once it's done, a final turn is given to each player and the round ends.

The player who's first to discover all cards of his tableau and thus make the round to end, must make sure that he has the tableau with the lowest total score. If this isn't the case, then the finishing player also gets as many penalty points as the player with the highest total, additionally to his own points.
For example, if Alice ends the round with 11 points while Bob had 9 and Cedric 17, Alice takes a total of 11+17=28 points.

As said above, an alignment of cards of the same rank don't count. Aces are worth 1, cards from 2 to 10 take their nominal value, jacks are worth 11, queens 12, kings 0, and jokers -3. Of course, all remaining cards still face down are turned up before counting.

The winner of the whole game is the player with the lowest number of points when a defeat limit is reached, for example 100 points.

Game rules

This game is played with the base rules of dominos, where the goal is to get rid of all your pieces by forming a chain on the table.
As with all domino games, at your turn, you must place a piece with a value corresponding to those at the ends of the chain.

In principle, this variant is played without boneyard, and deal all pieces when possible. The player with the highest double goes first.

The biggest difference with classic dominos is the way points are counted. By the way, the winner is the first player to reach a predefined limit, by default 100 points.

Scoring

Here is the whole point of this domino variant. When a player places a domino, and when the sum of the two ends is a multiple of 3 or 5, the player gets that number of points divided by 3 or 5. If the sum isn't a multiple of neither 3 or 5, no point is won.

For example, if the two ends show 3 and 1, the sum is 4. By playing a domino 1/6, the sum becomes 9 (3+6).
The player who played gets 3 points, because 9 is a multiple of 3, and 9 divided by 3 gives 3. If the next player plays a domino 4/3, the sum becomes 10 (4+6), which gives 2 points, because 2 times 5 is 10.

A double effectively counts double when computing the sum of the two current ends, for example the domino 4/4 counts 8. The double 0 counts 0.

The most interesting sum to reach is 15, because 15 is both a multiple of 3 and 5. As a multiple of 3, it is worth 5 points, and as a multiple of 5, it is worth 3 points, which gives 8 points in total.

IN advanced mode, prime numbers above 3 and 5, such as 7, 11 and 13, give points following the same schema. Thus a sum of 21 whould give 10 points. This mode is especially interesting to play with more complete domino sets, such as double 9 and double 12.

Tysiac in polish, Tysiacha in russish, or more simply 1000, is an eastern european trick taking game. It is popular in Poland, Serbia, Ukraine and Russia. It is played with 3 players and a standard card pack but only with the 24 cards going from 9 to ace. Its main specialty which makes it different is the ability to change the trump suit during the same round by declaring mariages with the king and the queen of the same suit.

Rules of the game

Dealing

The dealer shuffles and deals 7 cards to each player, and keeps 3 cards aside to form a kitty, which will be fetched by the taker after bidding (see further down).

Bidding

The player who follows the dealer starts the bidding phase, and must bid a mandatory contract of 100 points minimum.
The following players can, at their turn, either bid more points per units of 5 points up to 220, or pass. The player who passed can no longer make a bid for the round.

The bidding phase ends when all players but one have passed. The one who won the bid will be the taker for the round, and is engaged in making as least as many points as declared. The two other players will be the defenders.

The taker then takes the three cards of the kitty, show them to everybody, and add them to his hand.
Then, he gives any card of his choice to each of the two other players. The cards given to the defenders can be those just turned up from the kitty, or any other one. At the end, each player must have 8 cards for the trick taking phase.

Once the cards of the kitty have been turned up, the taker also has the possibility to raise the value of the contract.

Trick taking phase

As in all trick taking games, the taker starts the first trick, and then the winner of the previous trick starts the next one.
If a trump suit is defined, the best card of that suit wins the trick, otherwise or if there is no trump in the trick, the highest card of the requested suit wins.

  • One must follow suit if possible
  • If you can't follow suit, if a trump suit is defined and if you own some card of that suit, you must cut
  • If you don't have any card of the requested suit or trump suit, then you can play any card

There is initially no defined trump suit. It can be defined and change several times during the round (see next section).
Card order, trump or not trump, don't vary: ace, 10, king, queen, jack, 9. Be careful that, like in belote and in opposite to jass, the 10 wins over the king. Points don't vary either between trump or not trump, for a total of 120:

  • Ace: 11 points
  • 10: 10 points
  • King: 4 points
  • Queen: 3 points
  • Jack: 2 points
  • 9: 0 points

Mariage

The player who starts a new trick can, if he owns the king and the queen of the same suit, play one of them and declare a mariage
The trump suit immediately become that suit, and stays so until the end of the round or until another mariage declaration replaces it. The trump suit can therefore change several times during the same round.
It isn't allowed to declare a mariage directly at the beginnning of the first trick. You must absolutly own both cards in your hand when making the declaration. By playing a king or a queen without declaring anything, you lose that possibility.

Additionally, declaring a mariage gives bonus points, which are mostn often needed to fullfill a contract:

  • Heart: 100 points
  • Diamond: 80 points
  • Club: 60 points
  • Spade: 40 points

Scoring

IF the taker realized at least the announced score at the bidding phase, that exact amount is won. If the contract is failed, that amount is lost. Defenders always directly win the number of points they realized for themselves, regardless of if the taker succeeded or failed.
For example: Alice takes a hand for 140 points against Bob and Cedric. If she realizes 153 points, she marks 140. If she only realizes 139, then she marks -140.

Points effectively counted on the scoresheet are always rounded to the nearest 5 units, but the declared score for a contract must effectively be realized in order to succeer, otherwise that's a fail.
IN the above example, although 139 would be rounded up to 140 on the scoresheet, the contract would still be failed because 139 is less than 140.

Barrel

If a player reaches a score below the victory score, but near from it with a difference less than 120, his score is taken down to 120 points from the victory. For example for a victory at 1000 points, any score between 880 and 999 is taken down to 880. That player is said to be on the barrel. To leave the barrel and win the game, he has to succeed in taking a contract of 120 points or more within the three following rounds.

  • All points gained as a defender aren't counted, even when realizing 120 points or more. Only points gained as a taker are counted.
  • IF he takes a contract of 120 points or more and succeed, then he has won the game
  • If he takes a contract of 120 points or more and fails, he loses points as normal and thus is no longer on the barrel
  • If he doesn't succeed in taking a contract of 120 points or more within the three following rounds after arriving on the barrel, he loses 120 points and leaves the barrel (for a victory set to 1000, the score goes down from 880 to 760).

It's of course possible to win the game directly without ever being on the barrel, for example by realizing 140 points when being at 860 for a victory at 1000.

ABandon

After having discovered the three cards of the kitty, the taker can, if he think he won't succeed, decide to forfait the hand immediately.
IN this case, the taker marks 0 points, and defenders each mark half of the value of the contract, at least 60 and always rounded upwards to 5 units. A contract of 100 to 120 gives thus 60 to each defender, 125 or 130 gives 65, 135 or 140 gives 70, and so on.
The player is allowed to forfait only twice during the whole game without any consequence. ON the third time, he loses 120 points. It isn't allowed to forfait while being on the barrel.

Going home empty-handed

The player who don't make any point during a round is said to go home empty-handed. This has no consequence if it happens only twice, but costs 120 points on the third time. Going home empty-handed while being on the barrel don't count. Realizing 2 points, rounded down to 0, don't count either.
