A while ago I copied this from another website adding my own explanations as I was going to teach a friend. Perhaps some of you may find it useful. I think the explanations are better here than the official rules that are shown in the playroom.
TEXAS HOLDEM POKER CARD COMBINATIONS
HIGHEST HAND TO WIN
Royal Flush - An Ace-High straight of one suit.
Queen of spades, King of spades, Jack Of Sspades, 10 of spades, Ace of spades
(you can do the same with diamonds, hearts and clubs)
SECOND HIGHEST HAND TO WIN
Straight Flush - A straight of entirely one suit.
4 of diamonds, 7 of diamonds, 8 of diamonds, 5 of diamonds, 6 of diamonds, (spades, hearts or clubs could be the same)
THE THIRD HIGHEST HAND
Four-of-a-Kind (Quads) - Four cards of the same rank. (quad means 4)
Jack of hearts, Jack of spades, 8 of hearts, jack of diamonds, jack of clubs
The Fourth Highest Hand
Full House (Full Boat, Boat) - Three-of-a-kind and a pair. The example below would be called "Queens over Aces" or "Queens full of Aces".
Queen Of Diamonds, Queen of spades ace of diamonds, , Queen of clubs ace of spades (3 queens wich is 3 of a kind and 2 aces a pair of aces hence queen over aces)
THE FIFTH HIGHEST HAND
Flush - Five cards of the same suit.
4 of diamonds, 10 of diamonds, ace of diamonds, 2 of diamonds, 5 of diamonds
THE SIXTH HIGHEST HAND
Straight (Run) - Five cards of sequential rank. Note that in holdem, Aces can be high or low. (Sequence means that numbers or it could be letters follow each other such as the alphabet would be an example of sequential letters)
9 of diamonds 10 of spades, , Queen of clubs, 8 of diamonds, Jack of hearts,
An example of a straight where the Ace is low:
4Of diamonds, Ace Of Diamonds, 2 of spades, 5 of spades, 3 of diamonds
Three-of-a-Kind (Trips, Set, Triplets) - Three cards of the same
King of clubs, King of hearts, King of spades, ace Of spades, 2 of diamonds
Two Pair - Two cards of the same rank and another two cards of the same rank. The example below would be called "Jacks and Twos".
Jack of clubs, 2 of spades, 2 of diamonds, Queen of spades, Jack of diamonds
One Pair - Two cards of the same rank.
Ace of spades, 6 of diamonds, 10 of spades, king of clubs, Ace of Diamonds
High Card - When you don't have any of the above, your highest card determines your hand. The example below would be "King High" or "High card King".
