Uno
Game rules
The objective of the game is to get rid of all your cards as fast as possible. The winner is the first player having no more cards in his hand.
At the beginning of the game, the dealer deal 7 cards to each player, put the rest of the deck at the center of the table and return the first one to make it visible. That card will be the starting point for the first player.
One play one after eachother. At your turn, you have to play a card having either the same color, or the same number or symbol as that on the top of the pile. Some cards have privilege to be allowed at any time, some others have a particular effect (see below).
If you can't play any of your cards, you ahve to draw one in the deck. If the just drawn cars is playable, you can right play it. Otherwise your turn is over and it's the next player's turn.
When a player has only one card in his hand, he has to warn other player of that fact by saying ? uno ! ?. If he forgets to say it and another player notice it, then he has to draw 4 penality cards.
Particular cards
As said above, some cards have special meanings. Some of them can be played at any time, while others trigger a particular action when played:
Skip
When a player plays that card, the next one is skipped and the turn goes to the over next one. If there are only 2 players, then the player who played that card can immediately play again.
Reverse
When a player plays that card, the sens of the game is reversed. If one played clockwise until now, one will now play anticlockwise, until another reverse card is played again. If there are only 2 players, then the player who played that card can immediately play again.
draw two card
When a +2 card is played, then the next player has to draw 2 cards before playing.
Joker
This card can be played at any time and allow to choose the color which will have to be played afterwards. The next player is obliged to play asked color.
Draw four card
This card can be played at any time. The player who played that card can choose the color which will have to be played afterwards. But before playing, the next player must also draw 4 cards.
Depending on the variant, the player who has to draw 4 cards may be skipped.
Scoring
When a player wins by discarding all his cards, other players who still ahve cards in their hands have to count their points.
The ultimate winner is therefore the one with least points after a defined number of rounds, or after the looser has reached a defined limit (often 500, 1000 or 1500 points).
Here is the value of each card in points :
- Ordinary numbered cards are worth the corresponding number from 0 to 9 points.
- Special cards skip, reverse and +2 are worth 20 points
- Special cards jokers and +4 are worth 50 points
Extra rule variants
Responses
In this variant, a player who has to draw 2 or 4 cards following a +2 or +4 can, instead of drawing cards, play another +2 or +4. Next player will then have to draw the sum of all + cards played, unless he also has a +2 or +4 card to pass the obligation to draw to next player. One can't play a +2 above a +4 and conversely.
IF a player plays a +2 cards after having drawn, then the next player will only have to draw two cards.
Straights
In this variant, the one who has multiple cards of the same color having consecutive numbers, i.e. yellow 2, 3 and 4, can play all of them in the same turn, in ascending or descending order. However, You must be fast enough, because you lose your right to make a straight once the next player has played, and he can do so immediately after you have played your first card.
Interception
IN this variant, if you have exactly the same card as the one at the top, you can play it immediately without waiting for your turn. Then you play again and the game continue to the next player after you. Some players will therefore have their turn skipped.
IF you are not fast enough or if you make a misstake, you get 3 penality points... so be careful !
All cards can be intercepted, except jokers and draw fours.
Super interceptions
In this variant, one can intercept any card having the same number or symbol, no matter the color. Otherwise the rule apply at same banner as the rule above.
Bluff
IN this variant, we suggest that we can only play a draw four when we haven't any other choice. Playing a draw four in that case is still permitted, but is considered to be bluff (bluff in sens that you let other players believe that you haven't nothing else to play when it is not really the case).
The player who has to draw cards following a draw four can, instead of drawing cards, declare that the owner of that draw four is bluffing. If it is the case, that is the owner of the draw four could have played another card than that draw four, then the bluffer himself has to draw the cards plus 2 more. IF the accused player was not bluffing, that is if he actually hadn't another choice but playing that draw four, then the accuser has to draw two more cards.
This rule is absolutely not incompatible with the cumulation rule. In this case, it could be strategicly judicious to gently draw cards instead of responding to a +4 and be accused to bluff and therefore draw more cards.
Skip turn after drawing cards
This variant propose the obligation to skip your turn after having drawn cards by a +2 or +4.
0/7 rule
IN this variant, 0 and 7 cards get special effects :
- When a 0 is played, each player give his hand to the next player, in the same sens as in the game
- The player who plays a 7 can, but is not obliged to, exchange his hand with a player of his choice. The designed player can't refuse.
Buzzer
In this variant, we introduce 8 more cards in the deck, the buzzer cards. They can be played at any time and anything can be played on top of them.
When a player plays a buzzer card, all players must press B as fast as possible, including the one who just played the card. The slowest player to react will have to draw two penality cards.
